Summer Travel—Where the Deals Are …and Aren't - WSJ.com

At a time when all of America is hurting from the financial crisis, we who operate hospitality businesses in the U.S. see an artilce like this [WSJ] as a little painful. My two lodges in Ruidoso, New Mexico (Whispering Pine Cabins and Shadow Mountain Lodge) are both very economical and can facilitate any number of people or groups. The New Mexico experience is one that every American should take in. Within a short drive from our mountain resorts one can visit the Trinity Site (where the first nuclear explosion occured), the Valley of Fires, Old Lincoln (where Billy the Kid made old west history), White Sands Monument, Carlsbad Caverns, Smokey the bears home, and now Spaceport America where in the following months the first commercial space flights will begin. These are only a few of the amazing things Southern New Mexico has to share. Then there is incredible hiking, biking, fishing, hunting, gambling, horse racing and almost perfect weather year round. (In the winter, Ruidoso's guests enjoy some of the best skiing in the country. Sure, visiting Europe and Asia is great, but how about sticking around and saving some real money by visiting your neighbors and keeping the cash flow where it is realy needed right now? We are only two hours from El Paso, two and half from Santa Fe and Albuquerque, an hour and a half from Roswell and a couple of hours from the Spaceport ( in case your travelling from somewhere farther away than Boise)
